Statement of Intent
SPUN recognizes mycorrhizal fungi as vital components in how we must monitor and combat desertification. Mycorrhizal fungi are crucial for soil carbon storage and soil aggregation to prevent erosion, and can act as belowground indicators of degradation. They are currently a missing piece in working toward the three pillars of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN).
We invite partners to add their names to this statement of intent specifying that underground fungal systems can help us achieve Land Degradation Neutrality goals. Our aim is to open the door to exploring how fungi can help prevent desertification and aid in restoring degraded landscapes. This is not a commitment, but is the beginning of a conversation.
We will follow up with every supporter individually to explore what collaboration looks like both at a global scale and in your specific context, including what datasets SPUN can provide to help guide decision making in LDN frameworks
