about
Justin Stewart is an evolutionary ecologist whose research focuses on understanding how plant–microbe symbioses vary across spatial scales. His work centers on mycorrhizal fungi, with the goal of quantifying the distribution of biodiversity, functional traits, and biomass across ecosystems. He integrates field sampling, microscopy, DNA sequencing, robotics, and remote sensing to connect micron level processes with global patterns. Justin has a strong background in harmonizing data across diverse studies, languages, and methodologies, and applies advanced AI and machine learning models to analyze both spatial and non spatial datasets, and generate global predictive maps. He has led and participated in numerous international field expeditions, including work in the Amazon and Andes, the Galápagos, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, and the southwestern deserts of the United States. His research produces high resolution, actionable data designed to establish ecological baselines and inform climate and restoration efforts.
