Aside from studying the physiology of hospital-associated pathogens, our research group is studying the microbial communities in the Thar ecoregion. Specifically, we study biological soil crusts of the Thar desert using long-read sequencing and metagenomics.

I investigate the impacts that management and other land-use practices have on the composition and diversity of ectomycorrhizal fungi in post-agricultural and transitional forests.  I am also interested in how ectomycorrhizal fungal community structure is affected in forests impacted by invasive pests and climate change.

I am a fungal ecologist focusing on ectomycorrhizal fungi (one pet fungus is Amanita phalloides), and I have also become deeply involved in fungal conservation efforts. I am passionate about the human dimensions of conservation and an enthusiast (and practitioner!) of citizen science and community-based conservation.

My research focuses on understanding how changing environments, including disturbance and biological invasions, impact plants and their associated mycorrhizal fungal communities across scales. Current projects in my lab include: (1) examining how symbiotic interactions between plants and mycorrhizal fungi shape above and belowground communities in response to, and recovery from, disturbance events; (2) determining how microbiomes can be tailored to improve plant productivity in natural and agroecosystems; and (3) investigating the role of microbial inoculations in the success or failure of native plant establishment in ecological restorations.

Ectomycorrhizal ecology of Pacific Northwest conifer forests.

I am a PhD student studying the influence of ericoid mycorrhizal fungi on blueberry (Vaccinium sp.) plant growth and production through field, glasshouse, and laboratory experiments.

Working with undergraduate students at University of Panamá in the Agronomy Faculty into Agroforestry Engineering, ones of our objective is strengthen their capabilities understanding how the soil and their microorganisms working on. Under this focus, We will try to  evaluate the total fungal and mycorrhizal community richness and composition that will vary with elevation due to changes in climatic influences, in addition to soil characteristics and the influence of vegetation. For that, we will be establishing plots  to collect data at several sites across the Comarca Gnabe Bouglé in partnership with GCBC -STRI project. In addition our students must be using Labs from STRI to study molecular  (DNA)  and sequencing of fungal and mycorrhizal working with Saltonstall Kristin Dr.
