Fungal refugia are localized, protected environments of undisturbed fungal patches that can serve as critical habitats for biodiversity conservation. Establishing refugia for mycorrhizal fungi is critical for future restoration practices in which native fungi are leveraged to recover and re-colonize degraded landscapes over time.
