Fungal Taxonomy

My research primarily focuses on understanding the interactions between soil microorganisms and their environment. This includes studying how microbial communities contribute to soil health, nutrient cycling, and plant growth. My work also explores how environmental factors, such as climate change, land management practices, and soil contamination, affect microbial populations and ecosystem services. By examining these interactions, I aim to develop sustainable agricultural practices and environmental management strategies to improve soil health and promote biodiversity.

PhD in Agricultural Sciences and Biological Engineering from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. She holds a degree in Biology from the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, Ecuador. She teaches several subjects, including Cell Biology and Molecular Biology, at the UTPL (University of La Paz), both undergraduate and graduate levels. She is a member of the Microbial Systems Ecology and Evolution (MS2E) research group and researcher on projects related to plant-fungus interactions.

We are currently working towards completing an above-ground survey of North American macrofungi. Thus far our lab has DNA barcoded over 40,000 specimens from North America. Our goal is 100,000 new specimens over the next 10 years, on top of our current level. We primarily accomplish this through large collaborations with citizen scientists across the continent. Our week-long events have attracted over 1,000 unique citizen scientists within the last year. https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/continental-mycoblitz We are also starting to replicate this below-ground. We are aiming to process thousands of soil samples per year from North America, beginning in 2024.

Doctor of Agronomy, specialist in mycobiome of forest and agricultural soils, cropping systems and sustainable land management measures. I am also a trainer on issues related to environmental education, organic farming, improvement of agricultural yields and regeneration of native forest trees.

I'm focussed on the challenge of how to describe, document, understand and protect all fungal biodiversity - including how to conserve the ones we know, and what approaches are needed for the ones we don't know yet.

I am a Mycologist and Phytopathologist. My research is focused on fungi taxonomy and diversity using traditional approach as well as modern molecular approach of species and community barcoding. I utilize Sanger and Illumina sequencing. I also work on climate change, plant and fungal conservation and restoration of degraded land.

Our research contributes to the accumulation of information on tropical fungi, particularly in Thailand, and renders available numerous strains from natural habitats for application in agriculture. We are focusing mainly on entomopathogenic fungi, edible mushrooms, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. These groups have a strong potential for application in agriculture.

In a world of scientific breakthroughs, the solution to our most pressing problems could be right under our noses. Mushroom diversity holds great promise and potential for exploration, experimentation, and amelioration of the environment. Currently, I am conducting research on "Macrofungi of Zamiin National Nature Park." During my research, I am doing these tasks: Identification of all macrofungi species; Division into all ecological groups (ECM, trophic structure, etc.); Molecular analysis.
